This painting is of the oil refinery in Burnaby BC, Canada. The site is one of contention as the consequences of oil extraction and shipping become top of mind in recent years. The refinery has been there for many decades - in fact, my grandfather's career was based there. All of my landscape paintings are about humans - it is no longer useful to think of 'nature' as a moral authority that rewards and punishes us - nature is us.
